CANALETTO

Rio dei Mendicanti  (1724)

No.7

Giovanni Antonio Canal 1697-1768, better known as Canaletto, was an Italian painter of Venetian landscapes. The origin of the medicanti hospital dates back to the 13th century when there were many leprosy sufferers needing help. The title of the painting means the channel of the beggars.
